The islands of Croatia are absolutely gorgeous. The water is crystal clear, and the land formations are otherworldly. What better way to explore these features than from the deck of a yacht?

You can learn how to sail on this yacht trip, too. Our skipper has over 15 years of experience in sailing instruction, and his experience with sailing itself far surpasses that.

The thing I love most about our skipper, is that he’s also a teacher. More specifically, he’s a member of our global Traveling Teachers community. Because of this, he’s giving us a great deal on this yacht trip.

Trips like this often sell for $1,600 to upwards of $3,000 per week, so he could easily be charging more per person. He is basically offering us the trip at cost, which is incredibly generous of him – and fortunate for us!

Please note that this package does not include airfare between your point of origin and Croatia. When booking your flight, consider that Split is the closest airport, as it is less than 10 km (approximately 6 miles) from the marina.

The following is included in this yacht trip package:

  • 24/7 access to an on-board Trip Leader (another Traveling Teacher!)
  • Transportation to/from Split airport, before and after the yacht trip (during designated days and times)
  • Yacht charter fee
  • Transit log & end-of-trip cleaning
  • Dinghy outboard engine
  • WiFi
  • Croatian tourist tax
  • Cooking gas
  • *Individual bedding (note that you’ll have a twin bed in a shared cabin)
  • Damage insurance
  • Marina fees
  • Engine fuel
  • Meals on the yacht
  • Access to the full kitchen
  • Towel rental (for those who do not want to bring a towel from home)

The itinerary is generally the same for each week. Note that flexibility with the itinerary will be required. Changes might be made to the itinerary due to weather, or anything else that would impact participants’ safety.

*Note that you can request to share a cabin with a particular Traveling Teacher. Both of you need to request the other person as a cabinmate when you book. We hold this policy to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.

Important note: The rate for this yacht trip is per person, based on each participant sharing a cabin with someone else. The rate of $825 is an early registration price, and it will go up to the full rate of $950 in September, if there are still spaces available then.

I cannot stress enough what a deal this is!

If you’ve ever wanted to visit Croatia, now is the time to book.

If you’re curious as to what the yacht will look like, here’s a video detailing the features of the Bavaria 45 Cruiser.

Depending on how many bookings there are, renting the Bavaria 50 is also an option.

Cost & Payment Plans

As stated above, the cost of this yacht trip will increase on September 1st, 2020. Book soon to lock in the early registration rate.

You also have the option of making payments. The earlier you book, the better it is for you.

  • Before June 30th, 2020: 25% of the total due at booking ($206.25).
  • July 1st-August 31st, 2020: 50% of the total due at booking ($412.50).
  • After September 1st, 2020: Total increases to $950. 50% of the total due at booking ($475).
  • Any remaining payments must be paid in full by March 31st, 2021.
  • Any bookings made after March 31st, 2021 must be paid in full.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never been on a yacht before, and I've never done any sailing - can I still come?

Of course you can! Everyone has to have a first time. 🙂 You’ll find that you can learn as little or as much as you’d like during your week on the yacht.

Is ground transportation included?

Yes! Ground transportation includes airport pick-up and airport drop-off for Split, during designated days/times.

Those who are joining us for the next leg of the trip will move on with the group from Trogir.

Is airfare included?

Airfare between your country of origin and Croatia is not included in the trip total.

Can I bring my partner/spouse/friend/family?

Absolutely. This is a trip for Traveling Teachers and their loved ones.

Do note, however, that bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis – and we can only accommodate cabin requests if there are still enough spots for everyone on board.

Am I able to make payments for my trip?

Yes! 🙂

The total due depends on how far in advance you are booking:

25% due by June 30 2020.
50% due by August 31st, 2020.
Price increases on September 1st. Bookings after then will require 50% at the time of booking, which is $475.
Total due by everyone on March 31st, 2021.
Any bookings made after March 31st, 2021 must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Can I share a room with another teacher who's coming?

Absolutely! If you’d like to request a particular roommate, please note that when you book. Please also have your friend request you. If both parties do not request each other, we will not honor the request

Are payments refundable?

Unfortunately, no. As soon as I receive your payments, I book everything needed for your trip – which includes any covered accommodations, meals, activities and/or school visits. Because these need to be booked with our partners and providers in advance, we unfortunately cannot refund any payments.

If for some reason you can not make this trip, I can roll your trip fees over to another package that works better with your schedule and needs.

Will we spend nights in a hotel?

No. The yacht has cabins, showers, toilets, kitchen and saloon. So even if we spend the night at anchor, we have everything we need.

What do I need to pack?

Important note: there isn’t storage space for hard suitcases, a soft holdall that can be folded/flattened is ideal.

Participants will receive a packing list soon after booking.

What will I have to do on the yacht?

Leaving or entering a mooring (marina, at anchor or attached to a buoy) requires some people to throw/catch a rope, hook the buoy or drop/raise the anchor. The rest of the time, you choose, you can do as much or as little as you wish.

Our skipper can actually sail the yacht single handed!

How much money will I need to bring?

This price already covers everything on the yacht, including food. You’ll need extra if you sometimes want to go out to eat, grab an ice cream, get a beer, and etc while we’re visiting islands. And of course, you’ll need to bring money if you plan to buy souvenirs or post cards.

Should I bring cash, a debit card, or a credit card?

The official currency in Croatia is the Kuna. DO NOT buy Kuna in the US. Most places accept payment by card but, there are some restaurants and small shops that are cash only.

Before you leave the US, make sure your debit/credit card is activated to be used in Europe.

I can't swim, will I be safe?

Paul has hosted a number of non-swimmers over the years, and he hasn’t lost one yet!

The yacht will not be heeling over at a crazy angle, and it won’t capsize.

Will there be bedding and/or towels?

Although the cabins are shared doubles (two twin beds which are very close together), the bedding is individual.

Towels are not included but, can be rented for the week. Charter companies charges vary from 5 to 10 Euros per person.

The lightweight microfiber towels are the best option on a yacht, as they dry much quicker than regular towels.

Is there an age limit?

No. I’ve had a couple who brought their baby and the oldest couple I’ve had were 77 and 75 years old.

What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?

There is only one galley (kitchen). Paul has hosted mixed crews of vegan, vegetarian and meat eaters, along with a couple who only ate gluten free.

There is a central kitty (pool of money) used to purchase supplies. As a crew, we make sure, that everyone is catered for when shopping.

Do keep in mind, however, that due to the very close proximity of the shared space, we will not be able to accommodate anyone with airborne food allergies.

Is travel insurance included?

No. Some people in the past thought they needed special sport insurance (like if you go skiing). This isn’t the case. Because we’re island hopping, we’re never a long way from land, and we certainly wouldn’t ever need a helicopter ride.

Just buy regular travel insurance.

What if something gets damaged? Do I have to pay?

Usually, there would be a refundable security deposit of 2,000-3,000€ to pay, from which they would deduct money for any damages.

However, for peace of mind, included in your price is insurance to cover any damage. This means no extra deposit is needed; it’s covered in your trip price.

Will I learn anything?

Our skipper, Paul, started sailing dinghies when he was 16, and yachts a year later. He has raced, cruised, and was an instructor for 15 years. He’ll teach you as much as you want to learn.

Will I be able to go ashore?

Lunchtime is usually at anchor or attached to a buoy, so you can have a swim. We will have an outboard engine to fit on the dinghy, so going ashore in some places is an option.

Some nights will be spent in a marina, so you can eat in a restaurant, explore the city, or go sightseeing.

What about medicines?

There are pharmacies but, they may not stock the brands you are used to in the US. Please make sure that you have enough supply of any prescription or usual medicines.

Sun screen is an absolute must have!!!

What else should I know?

The Adriatic is a very clean sea.

There are a lot of ‘bottom feeders’, aquatic life which eat all the crap!

As the water from the showers and sinks goes straight into the sea, it would be good not to use soaps or shampoos which are toxic for aquatic life.
